Nice 16" winter brown taken on a #16 prince nymph.  One of 6 that afternoon.

O.k. Tompton, I have two questions for you:  Where were ya...and tell me! (ala Homer Simpson ;D)  Just kidding of course.  Where abouts?  SE MN or across the border?  Water in good shape?  Seeing some of the run-off and off-color water or was it running pretty clear?
Congrats on the good outing!  Good to know somebody's out chasing trout. ;)
I gotta get out there...maybe on Saturday.

BTW, I don't have my 10X jeweler's loupe on me...is that a little pic of the brownie?  Jeesh, you're as slick with this technology as I am! ;D

This fish was caught before all the snow showed up so there was really no runoff.  I was at the Kinni near the state park.  I have been there 4 times now this year and the fewest that I've caught is 5.  Last week the fish were feeding on midges, but I couldn't get them to take.  The only patern the I had was a Griffith's Gnat.  The midges were very small and grey (maybe size 22).  Pretty tough.

Yeah, midging can be tricky at times.  My experience has been that Griffiths work well when the fish are aggressively taking midges.  As soon as we get through this cold weather, the BWOs should be coming off pretty good.
I don't fish the Kinni enough and I should hit it more often.  I'm usually blowing through R.F. on the way to the Rush or SE MN.  I too have had some good days on that river, but will only fish it now during the week, like on a Tuesday or something.  It's close proximity to the cities can make for some busy weekends!

Where is 7 Pines?  I saw the show that you did for Minnesota Bound when you fished with Ron Schara's daughter.  It looked like a great place.

Is that the only place that you guide?

Seven Pines is about 5 miles north of Frederic, WI and about 5 miles south of Siren, just east of a tiny town called Lewis.  Charles Lewis is the cat that built the lodge back in 1903.
I also guide SE MN and want to begin taking day trips on the upper St. Croix and Namekagon for smallies.
Yes, that was a fun day.  Laura is a super nice person.  She was a great fishin' partner and did a fine job!
