Drop shot for Panfish ?

     Has anyone tried this technique?.   I personally have not but can think back to time where I know it would have made fishing easier and probably more effective.  I think often times we rely on electronics and forget that not everything shows when they are glued to the bottom.  I think of one time I was alone on the lake.  No fish on the vex.  fishing Crappies over 40 ft of water.  I finally found them on the bottom.  Not with the vex but by catching them.  I had 2lb.test outside with the wind.  No reel with a spring bobber.  Small glow charteuse glow jig.   After the catch it would take at least 5 minutes to unwind my line from ice chunks and thread the tiny jig down the hole.   Clearly a drop shot with a split shot or two would have made it easier to get the line down the hole.   I would have set that drop shot 4 inches off the bottom.  Vex was really no help.   These Crappies were pinned to the bottom.  If I did not have the spring bobber I don't think I would have caught a fish.   What are your thoughts on drop shots for winter panfish?  When the bite is tough it is a good tool to have in your bag.
