Ely Area Fishing (4th week of August)

The warm water has continued to make fishing tough on many area lakes.
Smaller Northern Pike and Bass are being taken in shallow water near weed and rice beds, but larger fish are not cooperating.
Shagawa Lake near Ely has been producing some Walleyes in decent numbers when fished in the evenings and early morning in 10-15 FOW.  Use leeches, half a crawler, or a bleeding copper original Raapala and troll slowly.
Lake Trout fishing has been very slow in Snowbank and Burntside, and the thermocline is down to about 34 FOW in these lakes.  Water temps will run about 68 degrees down to almost 30 FOW.
A cooling front is coming on Wednesday and appears to last for about 2 weeks.  Hopefully this will increase fish activity.

We just picked up a decent supply of leeches, and are selling them by the pound if anyone is in the area and looking for some!!
