Last weekend fellas.  I got out this afternoon after the snow, saw lots of birds, very jumpy also, did not expect that.  Anticpated them to hold tighter in the wet heavy snow.  Duey did have one excellent point on a rooster but the bird only held for about 10 seconds, and I needed 15 to get into position to have a good shot.  Big long tail, you know the kind, a little bit of bend in it towards the end, 23" plus.  But he sailed out of sight on to a private piece, maybe tomorrow.
Did see a ton of birds today though, one place at least 30 birds, lots of roosters mixed in.  Saw 9 roosters in one bunch, they ran back into the CRP and cattails, knocked on some doors, finally figured out who to go talk to.  Low and behold, we got permission!
Got back and they were back on the plowing, they ran back in and it looked like we could cut them off and pin them against the plowing for an easy hunt.  Private property, un- pressured birds, yea right, got within 70 yards of the area, birds are jumping way out in front.  Only thing holding tight are hens.  Duey finally pinned one down for me on the far end near some willow, made a poor shot, but a great retrieve put the bird in the bag.
Would imagine lots of guys out tomorrow and sunday, last hurrah on monday.  Good luck to all, cannot believe it is almost over for another year.

jebidia, welcome to MNO!

I re-read the seasons and limits and I see as you do that it closes on Jan 1.

my guess is they are not talking about midnight 12:01 a.m. Jan 1, since hunting hours are until sunset only.
my interpretation would lead me to believe the season closes at sunset on Jan 1.
I can see the area of confusion though.
you may want to hear from some of the more avid ringneck chasers here though. I'm sure they can clear it up for you.

Thanks for the welcome jigglestick. I was only goin from memory there and hadn't really thought about it till today. I haven't been out in awhile(probably the month of december). I'm not real crazy about walking in the wet weather either but some sacrifices have to be made. I'm pretty sure that if it lists the 1st it means you can hunt that day as well. It applies to every other season of game. I just moved out by Monticello so I don't have many areas to hunt as of yet. I'm reaaly disapointed in the rain we had and now things turning to snow as that will really do wonders for the ice. Anywho thanks again and I need to get motivated here and go smack a few. It'll be nothing like the Ivanho area. I was out there a couple different weekends this fall. Oh the birds out there.

I will agree with you there mayfly. I have lost way too many birds this year as well. I can't get the pointer to retrieve yet. Think I'm going to have to build a table. Unless I have a windfall and can send him back to the trainer. He has a good nose though. I have seen so many birds this year when I have been out. Many flushing very wild though. Alot more varmit pressure is what I believe it to be.

Well, the times I did get out we had a blast....literally. The dog did awesome and now she is washed up again. I will have a schedule change here soon and I will hit the preserve quit a bit. I have a lot of credit built up so I can just go. That will be for the dog....I know she is itching to get out. Wow what a crappy year. Have just been sooooo busy with work, the house and the daughter. The part that has killed me is that I have to work at me part-time job every ither weekend when I am supposed to be hunting!

Here are a few memories from the year......I'm sure these are already up somwhere else but here they are again...
