Fusion Update: 10/06/10
We went to the doctor yesterday and spent 3 hrs with him and the bone specialist going over the CAT scan and what the next move is going to be. I have just a little bit of bone growth on the top of the joint, but for the most part I have resorbed most of the bone graft. The piece of bone that he put in there is still there and that is a good thing. So, I am back in a half cast with no weight bearing and hopefully the bone stimulator will put down more bone. It is suppose to have an 86% success rate with bone growth. It is an ultra sound unit and I have to wear it for 20 minutes, twice a day at 2 seperate sites on the joint. It is suppose to send a message to the bone that it is under stress and send proteins to that area to stimulate stem cells to put down bone. That means I will need to be off of the foot for another 2 to 4 months with the bone stimulator. It is what it is and I am just going to do what I can to get well.
I need the joint to fuse at least 3/4 of the joint before I can put any weight on it. If it does not fuse with the bone stimulator the only other option that I have is, another surgery. I can’t even think about that right now, it is just way too hard to think about. I am still going out for the full moon this month and I have already gotten clearance from the Doctor and the Warden “Patty” as long as I do not put any pressure on the foot. I can catch fish just as well sitting down as I can standing up. It is pretty sad that the joint has not fused again, but what can I do but be positive that the stimulator will do its job and I will be on my way to recovery in a couple of months and maybe just maybe, I will be ready to start to put weight back on it by the 1st of the year and get the leg muscles back in shape. The calf muscle is just hanging and flabby, and just all around, pretty sick looking.
It is my 47th birthday tomorrow and I am going to take my bride out and have me a big ass steak, some big ass shrimp and a couple of drinks and we are going to get away from this place for a day and just enjoy each other. We don’t get any time to do that very much anymore. So that is the plan and I am sticking too it
Wish me luck and keep the positive vibes coming!
What is it going to take to get this foot to heal? I got some bad news last week after the doctor read the CAT scan. The fusion is not taking once again. What in the hell is going on? I have done everything that they have told me too and then some. I go back in tomorrow for a bone stimulator and a very heavy discussion with my foot specialist on what direction we are headed in next. I just can’t believe it, but it is true, 9 weeks out and no fusion, F#@&. Well it is what it is and we will see what the doc has too say about it tomorrow. On a lighter note, the fishing is still very good under bobbers at night out on hump #1 and Hump #2 with leeches.
There is also a good bite during the day with lead core and raps or the small mouth are still biting off of Rocky Reef and off of Indian Point. It is going to be a great full moon phase this month with the 14 day forecast it is looking like it will be warmer than normal and not too much rain. Yes, I will be out for this full moon phase no matter what. I missed the last one and with the news I got last week I am definitely going out even if it kills me. It has been such a bad year all the way around for me, so I need to get on the water. Things are starting to get very colorful around here with all of the leaves changing. I think that this weekend will be the peak time for us and then the wind and rain will take it all away and winter will be upon us sooner that we would like.
I will keep you updated after I see the doc tomorrow, and just keep your prayers coming; I think that I am going to need a miracle on this one. I can’t even think about doing this all over again, no way, no how!
Be safe
We will see ya
