well no griz got me.. but we had a few sightings and some tracks close to camp. the closest encounter was a rutting moose that wanted to check out our mules... ran him off without having to get the mule any therapy.  saw a ton of mule deer just not one big enough to hump off the mountain. the elk were all around us we had a guy in the group get a nice 6x6. the bugle is a wonderful thing to hear in person no recording does it justice. I ended up with antelope tag and filled that the day before we left. if you've never been around those antelopes.. they stink. found a few good sheds, one is the right side of a 300class bull.

Did you sleep with one or both eyes open?

yup.. thats a muley in the background.. 3x4.. not very big, but a muley non the less...

I was so pooped some days from walking up and down the mountains that sleeping with an eye open would have killed me.. we had bells on the mules which would wind the griz well before us and start freaking out and alert us.

I'm already thinking about next year.. I would like to go for muley.. maybe bring the kid. but I have to find an affordable way to do it, wouldn't mind paying a tresspass fee to get on some private land. but I don't have enough contacts so it may have to wait until 2012.

I'll get some more pics on tonight. beautiful country out there once you get out of the low land.

What part of the state?

My buddies just got back from SW MT. They were 1/2 on elk with a 6X6, and one mule deer doe with thier combination tags. I personally couldn't go with another addition to the family, but next year we are getting a group ready.

I hear ya on the affordability beeker, what are trespass fees in WY?

What exactly is a "trespass fee"?

tresspass fees are basically the cost of admission onto private property. they let you on, but you are responsible for your hunt and care.

I've been trying to work some angles on montana.. the license fee for muley there is about half of the other states. the idea of public land isn't bad, but since I've never been there I just don't want to plan a trip based on maps, and show up and have it be like opening day of the state fair or something. finding a rancher willing to let me hunt is ideal

They got the combo tag in MT - 1 elk, 1 deer (muley/white) for I think 650 +/-. Trip usually runs around 1,000 with gas/food/etc. depending on what

Plenty of public land, but your best hunting is through the week so the trip usually is 10 or 11 days. 2 to travel, the rest to hunt.
