Any good words out there on the 'eyes and sauger?  Barring unmanageable water levels, I'd like to hit one place or the other on the 26th.
Anybody do anything down there lately?
Plastics and blade baits the ticket?

What I have been hearing is that they are there but not the big ones yet.  Water temps were in the low 40's last weekend but not sure what the snow has done to that.  I am planning on heading down on April 2 if the weather holds up.  This gives me a couple of weeks to get the boat ready to go.  I have to get the new trolling motor on and ready to go.

R4W,
That's what I've heard and read too.  Males are present and are being caught in pretty good numbers, but the females aren't staging yet.  With the recent snow and run-off to occur soon, water temps'll definately go down before they head up.  We decided to wait until the end of the month or early April.
Thanks for the info.

I keep telling myself that one of these years I need to start fishing the river.  After all, I live on it in Hastings.
If any of you guys that fish it want to show me the ropes sometime, I would for ever be in your debt.  If I knew how to fish it, I'd be able to run out there after work sometimes or just a Sat. morning, instead of going up north all the time.  My wife would be much happier too. :-*
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

BFG,
Oh man, you live right next to some wicked action!  Here's a quote from an article titled, The GRIZissippi, by Noel Vick.  The article talks about the 'ssippi as a premier walleye destination.  I'd also argue that the St. Croix, from Stillwater down to Prescott, is another jewel that is relatively underfished!

Forget Canadian Fly-ins, Lake Erie, and Bay de Noc.  Lake of the Woods is awesome, but a guy from the Cities needs a few days time to enjoy it.  Winnie and Leech, truly special, but they?re still north a ways.  Even a trek to Mille Lacs requires a little trailering.  So it would seem that regular exposure to trophy walleyes is contingent on vacation days or ?calling in sick?.  The Griz begs to differ...Because of the labors of guys like Griz and his good buddy Dick Sternberg the river is back.  Continuously cleansing waters and mandated catch and release practices coalesce with an abundant forage base and wall to wall spawning habitat to create one of the North America?s greatest walleye fisheries.
