First time out today.  Normally I wouldn't punch a hole unless I shoot the ice with the vexilar.  Because of limited time and the crappy 4-5 inches of junk ice I skipped it.  How are your readings through the junk ice?  Can you even get one?

Just because you cannot see through it does not mean you can't read through it. I have best luck with a handheld  shooting through a wetted low spot. If you happen to get an air pocket then you are not gonna get anything but move over a foot and it will probably work. Also don't waste your time in old snow machine tracks.
