Just a reminder that trout season opens this weekend!! :happybounce: Myself, Red and Finnpower will be hitting the ice all weekend long for Lakers, Browns and Bows (and whatever else may take the bait!). Been waiting for this for months now. We will be heading up to Grindstone Lake for the opener and will hopefully be able to ice some trout! :happy1:

Good luck. We will be around the Aitkin/Malmo area this weekend and thought about hitting Grindstone on Sunday for a few hours on our way back.

Stop by and we'll have an impromptu MNO get-together.

Don't forget your cameras.  It would be fun to see some trout pics.

Ciscoes are in stock, shelves in the store are full and the fish should be hungry. Ely area has some great trout fishing. Burntside and Snowbank Lakes are tops for lake trout.

Well the opener has come and gone and it was nice to get back into trout after a 10 year hiatus. Saturday started with leaving a little late due forgetting the map....can't go to a new lake without having that. Got there around 0840 and set up in 17-19 FOW. Approximately 14-15" of ice. Best bite was between 1000-1130 and 1400-1530. We used white euro's and micro crappie minnows on a mixture of jigs. I was using a Glow White jig from ATI and it did not disappoint!(pics to follow) We ended up with 4 Rainbows and 1 laker :happy1:. I made a rookie mistake and lost 1 down the hole .
Sunday was not a very good day at all on the lake for Big Red, Coach and Myself. 1 single bow over 8 hours between the 3 of us. We did have hits/bites but weren't able to capitalize. Almost lost a rod down the hole two separate times. Had the hands and eyes on the opposite rod on both occasions. The lake wasn't as busy on Sunday by far. Trout are fairly skittish at times and I would imagine the sudden mass influx of people on the lake probably got them a little shine shy.
Pics were taken of the trout on Saturday and Sunday and i will let Big Red take care of that since my wife and I together couldn't get them to load up, Red said he'll re-size them and ad them for me. Planning to head out again this weekend with the 'Shop Foremen' and specifically go for Lakers.

Here's FireRanger and the Rainbow from Grindstone Lake yesterday.  I got nothing except for a short nap until the DNR airplane flew overhead and woke me up.

:rotflmao: Very appropriate!! He did hold on in the car on the way home, no napping was had. We had a good time eventhough we only caught 1.

Because everyone keeps busting my  :moon: about my height and the way Beeker makes it sound, I assume I'm 5 years old in age too.     Although I do still like "color by number" books.
