The Between the Lakes Youth Trap League will be holding competition trap shooting for those in grades 6-12. Except for a $35 fee due at orientation, all shooting expenses will be paid for by the Manitowoc Gun Club. All participants must have a Hunter Safety Certificate or be currently enrolled in a Wisconsin DNR Hunter Safety Class. Additionally participants must have a safe and usable 12- or 20-gauge shotgun, plus eye and hearing protection.

The program is open to both boys and girls and will include the following:

l Instruction in shooting and gun handling safety, firing line etiquette, trap rules and scoring, and trap machine familiarization and safety.

- 50 target-practice shooting with instruction

- Minimum 200 target-league shooting with limited instruction

- 100 target state school trap shoot

- All fees, shells and targets

- League and individual trophies

- League ending awards/bust-up party

Tentative dates are late March to mid-May. Shooting will take place on Saturdays at Outdoors Inc., New Holstein; Kiel Fish and Game; Winnebago Eastshore Conservation Club, Chilton/Stockbridge; the Manitowoc Gun Club, possibly other clubs, and the state high school shoot at Mayville, Wis. on May 13-15.

To judge the interest in this event, parents of interested students should contact Scott Skattebo at 684-0625 or 629-0370 on or before March 6. Students and a parent/guardian will be required to attend a mandatory orientation meeting at the Manitowoc Gun Club, 3112 Clover Road, Manitowoc, on April 2 at 9 a.m. The meeting is expected to last approximately two hours.
