what are the plans for the property this year? personally I want to rent a brush hog and add a few new plots while cleaning up a few trails.. a backhole would be a dream but I think it's just a bit unrealistic this year.

got an idea for a new stand but I have to check out a tree I want to use first on the property and find a few old boat seats.

Where do I start.... 

Expanding a few plots, cutting some new trails and finding some new property. I will be putting in one new plot but just expanding the other two. Its going to be great! I will post some more details and include pics as I begin the process.

I always end up with a bigger wish list then what I ever get done at the land. but each year we move a bit closer to where we would like it too be. this year we plan on getting a few bigger fruit trees and fencin them off.

putting in a few plots and clearing trails also gonna head out in the next few weeks and move some stands around while looking for sheds gonna try a small bean plot by one stand and for the other bigger plots not sure what we will plant any ideas would be great thanks

i would love to get out and move a few stands myself. however the road (2track) down to the property isn't plowed.. kinda like it that way, keeps the rif raf out. so any winter adventure up there involves a long hike.. not saying I won't do it.. just that it will take allot out of this guy.

dakids.. do you have small labor force for that? will be nice when it's done and the trees start producing

Itasca green house didn't offer service berry.  I will also be ordering 10 bare root Dalgo crab apples which will be 1-2 inch trunk dia.

We will be getting the fence from Itasca nursery also.  Already have the posts and cable, only have to buy the netting.  The shrubs and trees will be planted between the road and the food plot

The work force is getting older and can be bribed with candy, chips and pop.

Last year I planted rye grain. Do you think it will come up again or will it have to be reseeded?

Should be the very first thing to turn green in the spring

I love using the youth work force. it's nice when you can send em back to the truck on the wheeler for some forgotten tool.

rye grain you say. did it work well? I had really good luck with turnips last year... I was also thinking of doing some broadcast seeding of corn. thought I read that it worked out for someone else on this site.

I broadcast some corn a couple years ago. It came up but the deer ate off the tops so fast it never matured. I think you need about 10 acres or so or the deer will eat the tops off right away. The deer loved the rye grain last year. I'm still having a hard time getting anything to grow in the food plot in the woods. It seems where the sun hits the clover grows. I've tried the mix of chickory,turnips and rape. I've tried the rye grain. Still not much will grow. I put some lime on there a couple years ago and I've fertilized it every year. Might have to get it tested this year.

We have had pretty good luck with clover in the "woods" food plots.

Have a lot planned for this year! Adding 4 to 5 new plots. A friend bought a new tiller for behind wheeler now i am just looking for like a 2 row corn/bean planter or will broadcast like a did a few years ago. Possible planting a couple hundred trees also. So ready to start the work!

I hear ya.. I haven't been to the land since nov last year. usually I get up there allot more than that. been toyin with the idea of picking up some of the seed fleet farm has on sale. it may be way more than I need, but who's to say how much I really "need" anyways

As far as food plots I haven't decided on everything but you can about name it and I'll plant it this yr. Always trying something new.
