Grant apps to pay for 75% of Wildfire Sprinkler System now being accepted
Property owners who live in identified high-risk wildfire areas of Lake County may submit an application to participate in a FEMA-funded external wildfire sprinkler grant program. Property to be protected may be seasonal, homestead, or commercial. Applications do not guarantee participation in the program or obligate the property owner to do so, but are required to document eligible participants. Applications are due by May 18, 2011.

High risk wildfire areas include the Birch/Slate Lake area, Fernberg Corridor/ Kawishiwi/ Triangle Lakes area, Isabella area, Thomas/ Marble/ Kane Lakes area, and the Two Harbors Railroad Corridor. Maps of these areas are available on pages 25-62 of the CWPP on the Lake County website (www.co.lake.mn.us under Emergency Management Department, Plans, CWPP.

External wildfire sprinkler systems may be an effective tool in protecting property structures from wildfire in conjunction with Firewise practices to increase defensible space. The Lake County sprinkler grant program covers 75% of the cost of sprinkler installation.

For more information or to request an application, contact Bonnie Hundrieser, ARDC Senior Planner: (218) 529-7527 or bhundrieser@ardc.orq. Application deadline: May 18, 2011
