Got loaded up on bait today, including the best minnows you can have, Emerald shiners.  Also have fatheads, crappie, lite pike, and will have rosy reds on Friday. So get your stuff ready to head north, we should be ready to hit the lake this weekend in force! And lake access is only $2, at least until the plowing gets tough, if you buy bait.

That is great that you are offering access for only $2.00 (when you buy bait).  We got to have bait, so why not take advantage of the cheap lake access?  I'll be up there soon, maybe not this weekend, but sometime in Dec.

I heard that BBH, last year the ice situation was horrible.
most people worried about taking their hard houses out with spotty ice conditions that lasted too long on the big red pond.
yes, pray for the ice.
there is no shortage of fish on upper red that is for sure. :)

Well just like that things look real good with the ice. I haven't been out in a couple of days but yest aft. 2 guys went out a ways. Went past the ice piles, said there was 7 inches or more everywhere. Tried fishing out deeper right away, only caught one, 18", came back in to the six foot depth and got their limit of keepers plus some too big throw backs. Also broke off a couple probably pike and landed one 37" pike. So pretty good especially since they were right off the end of the dock!

tell us what the ice piles look like, what to expect if we venture out.
how are the resorts going to deal with the rough ice to get onto the lake?

The big ice pile runs around the lake at a little less than 1/2 mile from shore. But it isn't a solid wall, there are areas along it where it is flat and we can drive right through without having to move it. That being said, we will be moving some I am sure to widen out the road but it might not be to difficult because the pile is made up of ice sheets only up to 2 or 3 inches thick so it should break up when it gets hit with the v plow. If it doesn't get widened out it will soon fill in with blowing snow. Once past that ice ridge it is pretty much wide open with occasional piles so that looks good.

Hoping to make it up for NEW YEARS again. Hopefully there will be at least 18" of good ice by then.
