Arbor Month in Minnesota celebrates 100 Years of Forestry

In Minnesota, May is Arbor Month and Arbor Day, Friday, April 29, marks the beginning of an entire month of celebrating trees.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating 100 Years of Forestry in Minnesota.” It recognizes the centennial of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Division of Forestry.

“For 100 years the division has protected, managed, and educated the public about one of Minnesota’s most treasured resources, our forests,” said Dave Epperly, DNR division of forestry director.

Minnesota’s official Arbor Day celebration is titled “Arbor Dorer Family Fun Day” is on Saturday, April 30, at the Kruger Campground and Management Unit.

There are also a number of Arbor Day or Arbor Month celebrations scheduled throughout Minnesota.

Minnesota became the fourth state to adopt the tradition of celebrating Arbor Day in 1876. Since 1978, May has been Arbor Month in Minnesota. The warmer weather in May allows newly planted trees to get off to a good start.
