These people are a joke~ total disregard for our resource and absolutely no common sense.you would'nt believe the pictures coming in,further the lack of creel teams at the accesses so who knows how many fish are sliding through the cracks,to make things worse the netters have set camp up on our non-native public landings, you knoe the ones,"No Camping" signs all over.

Some of the lost netts were recovered, then more lost two nights ago, just wait to see what happens tonight, the circus moved to malmo yesterday and we have 25mph westerly winds coming this afternoon,-we have alot of folks up-in-arms this year, cameras are rolling, this is a trajic event taking place, commercial fishing our waters by 6 tribes from wisconsin, heritage my ass~

Already I've seen pics of dead pike discarded by netters washing up on shore so not to be counted in their quota, dead  from netters using a tool to release the nett from the fish, fresh holes in the head of the fish and eye balls pushed in,truely a sad deal.

Hmmm, anyone here fish mille laces? This is the only site state wide that shows little concern on the welfare of mille laces, our lake is in trouble folks,it is systematically being destroyed by commercial netting as Red Lake was not long ago~I urge any and all fishermen/women to contact their local state senators to bring this issue back to the table, further our state is allowing this to happen where they have the authority to intervene.

As of yesterday an eye witness account~

"Amazing sights.....

My guess( based on last years records and the present "urgency caused by the late ice-out) is that the next few nights will average 400 or more nets in the lake at once. In others words....40,000 to 50,000 linear ft. of net. In some areas, the nets are lined up--end to end, parallel to shore, for over 1000ft. stretches, but out a few 100yds. Blocking off access for the fish to get to the shallow rocky shorelines to spawn.

This so wrong in so many ways folks~

snow, i fish mille lacs every year for opener...with this only a week before opener on the big pond, we have canceled our trip. last year was fun, but it lacked fish. we were in one of the many areas they netted and everyone i talked to in the area said the same thing....there are very few fish in it. but this has been going on for awhile, even mr bud grant was told to shove off, by our state. they dont care, we as tax payers/fisherman pay for the fish that the DNR stock into that lake every year. but the gov officials are in the indians pockets....

Cody, sadly that is the story of today, the indian industry are systematically destroying the lake and its not a planned operation either, they're not smart enough for that, the easy pickens areas have been stripped, along the entire west shore, now they've scattered along the entire east shore from cedar creek north.

One of the best spokes person's on this matter is bringing the battle back to court, check here and read into it Steve Fellegy and his brother Joe are at the fore front  http://www.casstoday.com/

If we can save the lake from future pilaging it won't stop the resident indians from havesting as we;'ve seen in years past before 1999 they whined every year that I can remember and we let them for heritage reasons, but thats not the issue here, its the commercial netting operation taking place, and the blantant disgregard of our states natural resource,if you think a closed season for us non-natives,reduced daily limits and a stricked slot is bad now, just wait, remember upper red was closed for 10 years folks~it took 13 years to commercially fish out red lake,we're on year 12 here~

PS~ MILLE LACES is not stocked with walleyes, never has been and never will on my dime while we have a selective group pilaging the lake and snubing their noses at our state laws, they love living by double standards, very convient for them isn't it?

What do you want us to say SNOW? Do you want us to log onto the site and complain and cry about how much we don't like it?

I hear this crap every year.. and yes I call it crap. A bunch of guys hop on-line and complain about the netting and then once the opener rolls around the topic is history.

I have had a place on Mille Lacs since 2001 and its "my" lake. I love that lake and love fishing there.

I knock on the same doors every year and send a few emails. I do my part. What I am not going to do is sit around and WASTE MY ENERGY on a forum complaining about it. Its just not me. I try and go through the correct channels and still after 10 years nothing has changed.

I'll continue to do what I can but you won't see me on here complaining about a problem that honestly I do not think will change... not for a long time. Its already been to the high court.

So thats my 2 cents... if you really can't tolerate it go fish a different lake.

MNO,

Who's crying? be part of the solution, sitting back doing nothing and let the indian industry roll over us is a shame, change is in the wind and as a property owner I'm surprised at your attitude? Further, last spring we had enough folks off a different outdoor minnesota site raddle enough doors to setup a round table meeting with one of our states senators,Mike Jungbauer incase you did'nt know, the meeting involved our DNR and tribal chair people people, the meeting was eye opening for Mr Jungbauer, this year we have several senators as well as Steve's jury trial coming up,funnel your energy here,it all helps.

Agian,take a looksey here "http://www.casstoday.com/"

Enjoy the fishing while you can, unless we bring this issue back to the table our days are numbered, remember it only took the netting 13 years to shut down upper red lake.

And if you think the fishing has been great the last 10 years, you would'nt believe how good it was 10 years before that~The lakes walleye Bio Mass has declined by 50% in the last 10 years, these are facts posted and available through our own DNR.

Sitting back isn't an option in my lifetime and thankfully others feel the same way,we have alot of folks working on changing this issue!thankfully here is a note from another person up front.

PS  My Outdoor News column goes to a wider audience (beyond Mille Lacs), so, some of this is repetitive for you. But it gets at the heart of how this thing is such a big monster--on many levels--and our state leaders and major media don't force the accountability it all deserves. And that has resulted in a generally ignorant public.

Who is sitting back? I exchanged a few emails with Jungbauer and a few others that were involved. I at one point set up a website specifically aimed at this issue. I'm just done with the forum rants about netting. I just took offense to your comment "This is the only site state wide that shows little concern"

Just because I or others are not posting it here does not give you the right to point fingers at other people and say we don't care.

MNO,

Lighten up man merely stating facts,we're on the same page and as a property owner on the lake you should be all over the state as your property value will keep dropping as the lake slowly dies, talking about this subject often keeps this issue in the fore front, every year this  (netting) starts up we here chatter and then the chatter dies, the last couple years we see folks finally take notice and want more info year around, who to talk to and above all realize our DNR is BSing the lot of us from the Aitkin office,so yeah outdoor sites gets the message out and finally folks are smelling what we are cooking.

Keep an eye on Steve Fellegys jury court trial june 7th,this day might just start a new chapter

PS~I never said no-one cared, just showed little concern and how do you know if I pointed my finger?~just sayin~
