New spring catalog showcases free outdoor fun at Minnesota state parks and trails
(Released May 9, 2011)

Naturalist-led geocaching adventures, fishing clinics and bike rides on state trails are just some of the many programs and special events taking place this spring and summer at Minnesota state parks and trails. Highlights are listed in a free catalog available from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The catalog lists more than 400 free or wallet-friendly activities.

Examples include:

special events taking place on Saturday, June 11 (National Get Outdoors Day), such as grand opening celebrations for new mountain biking trails at Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area and the new visitor center at Big Bog State Recreation Area
stroller walks on the Heartland State Trail for children ages five and under and their parents
guided canoe trips for novice paddlers on four segments of the Mississippi River Water Trail.
The catalog also provides other helpful trip-planning information, such as lodging options and where to find the birding, fishing, geocaching and Kids Discovery kits that parks loan out to visitors for free.

The Programs & Special Events catalog is available at all Minnesota state parks and at Twin Cities metro area libraries and outdoor retail stores. It also can be ordered by calling 651-296-6157, toll-free 888-646-6367 or info@state.mn.us the DNR Information Center.

For more information, including hundreds of additional programs and special events not printed in the catalog, visit mndnr.gov/parksandtrails.

The Programs & Special Events catalog is supported with funding from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
