Opener will be historic with the early shooting time.  Normally I open on Leech where the tribes start at 1/2 hour before sun up and we had to wait until 9 am.  Let's just say Sunday was a better hunt for us.  This year will be a different story.  Because of the last minute season change I have to scramble.  Waterfowl is always tough because I make my plans a year in advance for work.  This is the first year I messed up.  Actually the rules changed late so   I don't have the long weekend I normally have. We are going to a late season lake.  I expect the ducks to be a bust but plan on making up for it fishing.  Either way it's a no lose situation. :happybounce: :happybounce: :happybounce:

Myself, Red and Finnpower will be getting up early for sure. We'll be up at our usuall spot by Squaw Lake, hunting the same spot we've hunted for the past who knows how many years. Is this late season lake in that vicinity DDS?? We'll be near a fantastic fishing lake as well... ;D

What county will you be in?  I will be in Orr MN on the infamous Pelican Lake.  If the shooting is poor we will be chasing some smallies around.   :fishing:

Good luck everyone.   Sounds like blue bird skies for the weekend. :banghead: :banghead:   If the teal and woodies are still in town it  still  should be a good opener.

"Cocked, locked and ready to rock" Last sunday while goose hunting I had bunches of blue wing teal, woodies and mallards bombing my field taking a looksey,so it should be a good opener in my area near Hugo, only a 10 minute drive from home makes it better but I do miss the days of setting up duck camp in western Mn along the minnesota river.

I'll be right around Round Lake just beside the town of Squaw Lake. Good Luck with the ducks and the smallies!!

i used to stop bowhunting and switch to ducks until rifle opener. now i have given up on ducks all together as i can only bowhunt a few days of the season now. my brother is all geared up and ready to go. should be lots of woodies in the swamp. hard to beat hearing their wings cutting the air just feet above your head while its too dark to even see them. kind of scares the crap out of ya the first couple times. and of course the smell of gunpowder in the cool fall air while the fog is still on the water. one thing i wont miss is hauling the duck boat and bags of decoys 400 yrds over a bog, sinking in every 10 steps! good luck to you all tomorrow, i will be in my deer stand for the first time this year hopefully getting a chance at a nice one.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

Turned out to be quite foggy both Saturday and Sunday mornings on Pelican Lake in Orr.  As I expected the ducks were scarce where we hunted but the fishing was good and we did manage a couple of huge honkers right away Sat. morning.

Opened up in Ottertail County, and it was the poorest in years.  The fellow we lease from said he's never seen so many ducks.  That was until the youth hunt and the early goose season on water.  It shouldn't be on water!  Then they disappeared.  4 hunters in two days bagged 4 geese and 4 ducks.  Lousy.
