    • Fishing & Hunting South Dakota's Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
The fishing along with the weather Is holding up. Wind has been 10 to 15 mph, temps In the 80's and just about every one that knows the lake are coming in with limits of walleye and lots of smallmouth bass. I fished Verne and Lyla Furhrman from around Norfolk, Nebraska to their possession limits of walleye and smallmouth bass along with a northern pike and a few catfish so they stayed busy catching and eating fish and had a real nice batch to take home. Their biggest a 24 Incher along with a couple of 22 and 23 Inch fish. The smaller fish we kept were in the 16 to 19 inch range. We caught these fish in 17 fow to 30 fow on bouncer/crawler rigs but there are a lot of fish being caught trolling plugs also if that is your style. Once again I am just driving to area's that have very little boat traffic (we never fished around another boat moving If someone came) monitored points and fished whenever we spotted 5 or 6 fish or more. That is just about every 3rd point in the area I am fishing but I believe you can do the same all the way up and down the river as Oahe has great numbers of walleye of all different year class's. When monitoring fish on Oahe be aware that many times Drum mark almost like the walleye, however If you talk to diver's that are spearing they will tell you that most of the time when they see drum they will see walleye and that has been my experience also. Not many Salmon fishermen out so no report on them. Northern down to as much as 40 fow along with some bigger walleye. Remember horse stable spray for fly's and some days a lot of water.
