Itasca State Park either-sex muzzleloader deer hunt regulations and season dates have changed, permit application due Sept. 8
(Released September 1, 2011)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds those interested in hunting deer in Itasca State Park during the muzzleloader season that a special hunt permit is now required and the deadline for applying for this permit is Sept. 8.

In addition to the new special hunt permit requirement, the season dates have changed to

Nov. 26-27 and Dec. 3-4. The hunt is closed Nov. 28-Dec. 2 and Dec. 5-11.

“The decision to go to a special hunt permit and reduce the season length was based on minimizing issues between hunters and other park users,” said Chris Gronewold, Itasca State Park resource specialist. “Compared to the rifle season, we tend to have more muzzleloader use at this time of the year.”

A total of 125 either-sex permits will be available for the muzzleloader deer hunt with four bonus permits allowed to each permit holder. This year, the special hunt tables are not printed in the regulations book.

To apply for a permit, go to any DNR license agent, apply online or call 888-665-4236.
