I was hunting last weekend and I drew back on a big doe but seen that she had two fawns that looked like they were from this spring so I didn't shoot. I was just wondering how old the fawns would have to be to survive without their mom...

they should be pretty independent by now. they will be chased away in a few weeks when the bucks are after there does. i try not to shoot does with fawns, but everyone has different ways and neither way is the wrong way.

i agree with cody, the only thing they really need thier mother for this time of year is her brain. she will be able to teach them how to avoid hunters in the fall, and vehicles on the road. does will kick them off soon to breed but then will start herding up after the rut again in search of food and safety.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

It's pretty much personal choice at this time.  Odds are if you shoot a lone doe, the fawn was just not next to the doe.  I usually go by the size of the fawn.  If they are big I don't worry too much about it.  If they seem small or never get more than 2 feet away, I let the doe go.  No real right or wrong here.

I agree with Cody as well, they will be given the boot here pretty quick anyway.
