Well, an update of my season so far.  I made it out with the bow 2 weekends this year, not as many as I would like to, but I did see alot of deer before opener and passed up on some nice does and some smaller bucks.  I went out for shotgun season and the first morning I had a nice buck trotting by my stand.  Initially I wasnt going to shoot, but I figured it was 15 yards, but running, and I was confident I would be able to make a good shot  :banghead: I didnt, and now I wish I never would have shot.  In its running motion, it must have jumped my slug and I ended up hitting its front leg.    It ran off, and I thought, well, maybe it will bed down and bleed - BUT it was hot on some does, and there was no stopping it.  We found alot of blood where it must have stayed with the does and then the blood trail stopped.  We kicked out the does, and never saw the buck until the evening when we kicked it out of some willows.  It was hobbling, but there was little blood in its bed.   :banghead:  I am still upset at myself for shooting, I always feel awful to injure a deer - I can just hope it will recover before the winter, or another hunter harvested him.
That evening, I had some nice mature does come by, so I decided to take one.  Then about 30 seconds later, another came even closer, so I took her too.  So 2 does in the freezer is the good part, but the buck is disappointing to me.  I will be bow hunting our new land next weekend in search for a mature buck.

We saw alot of buck last weekend, which is a great sign - lots of 4's and spikes, and atleast 3 nice 6s and 8s.  So the crop next year will be lookin promising!   :deer:

HUNT & FISH TELL YA DROP
I.B.O.T.'s 249 & 250
Handle every stressful situation like a dog.  If
you can't eat it or hump it.

Piss on it and walk away

Yep, party hunting - we had 5 of us, all with doe permits.  Two others in the party tagged the deer, so I still have my tag, so Ill be bow hunting a few more weekends.    :Deer:

346 in SE MN you can shoot up to 5 deer, only one buck of course.  Unlimited does in the CWD zone by pineIsland!
