It comes once a year Buck fever,

Opening morning was just like every year. Up before the sun raise hoping I do not forget some that I might need in the field, but one thing I do not forget is to check the wind. This year I have a south wind and this is not a good thing for me because I place most of the stands for west wind or north wind or west north wind,  as winter time that where the wind come from.  Seen nothing in the morning but come night fall thing heeded up as the sun going down and I really to call it a day. As I shut one window on the deer stand as I was looking out the other one I see two deer sneaking under my stand as they was going throw the fence I pointed the gun right at the big one out of the two (now mind you I did not hold the gun to my eye) Bang deer going in all ways, Out the stand I when 5o yards deer dead, It was a butting buck tag as a Doe, Good steaks!!!  :dancinred:

This morning 11-9-2011 I get up later and was out the door at 9am as today plan was to hit some WMA state land. As mid week I like to change thing up a little Know the weather is changing and Buck are in full rut and WMA state land are less hit in mid week. I plan on hitting two small WMA land today, I when one mile form my house a look the woods over by the road and notes that no car truck or the site of blaze orange, Now I guessed that this WMA was about 100 ace but 80% of it swamp or water more open water, So I walk in 500 yards and sit face the swamp. 5 min I put out my doe in heat call, Baa Baa Baa three times nothing 5 min three more times nothing.  So it time to move.  I walk along the swamp and could hear myself walk the wind was calm then I hear a deer run across the swamp. I stop and sit down pull out the call again three times nothing 5 min three more times in come this buck 50 yards in front of me I stood up and he stop and looking right at me. My eye putting him in the cross hairs Pull the trigger nothing forgot to pull the hammer back,, quickly pulled it back as we was face to face pull him in the singes (Bang )  he when up on his rear legs I seen blood coming from his neck and he feel over,  I walk over slow to him.  As I was ΒΌ of a mile in and took me 2 hours to get back to the truck, As I had to drag him a mile around swamps over tree up  hills. As that can be part of hunting we just might not like.

It always a fulminate to call a buck in and that Buck fever wow. I call a few bucks in and this call works!! It just go to show other that WMW are good places to hunt you pay for it. Some smaller WMW are offend over look if they are easy to get to as most hunter think they have been hit hard in most case this is falls, calling  in buck with this call is a rush,, Now I try  gut call but have never found nothing that work like this one it one thing that a must in my back pack.

Buck fever!! Now I have to wait other full year!!!  Here a  :Photography:  of the call that I use The next   :Photography:  was the spot that I made the shot Can you see him?

I used a can call for the first time this year and I must say it worked fine.  Never scared a deer, all deer stopped and a few actually came to my stand.   Other methods (grunts, rattles) often scare the deer and if the do stop, it's just for a brief second and then their off to the races.
Congrats on the buck.

Well guys, I hate to say it but I struck out this year.  It's been 5 or 6 years since I haven't gotten a deer.  Our party tagged out at least so I'll still have a freezer full of venison.  Better luck next year.

I have all ways had this thing of picking my brass up, I have Evey one that I shot then I mark them with year and what I shot.

This year I was able to get my bullet back, This bullet when in his neck and stop at the front leg shoulder  on the right side. the bullet was right under the hide,

This is what a 30 30 look like after stopping a 10 point buck!!

had a nice six or seven point come in silently on me this evening. he came in on my right going right to left. thought I was going to get a shot. as I went for my gun he stopped and looked, then, kept walking so I lifted my gun and he stopped and looked, then, kept walking. I then put my gun in position for the shot on the next opening beyond the cedar he was behind.
I was just about to reign down DFA upon him and he stopped, only this time he wasn't walking , he took off running knowing something was up but not quite knowing what. I had no shot...grrr

instead of DFA he LDB  (lives, down below)

as a matter of fact I bought that exact call today and I did indeed employ it, but he was having none of it.
I have thought about the possibility of a higher power saying "just hold off, I got bigger plans for you this season  :king:

it's on my camera at putz camp. I woulda took it with my phone but I dont know how to do the delayed photo on my phone cause I was the only one around there. nobody else to take the picture. I know how to work the delayed timer on the digital camera so I used that.

side note, friday I had a nice spike come into range and though he looked tastey, I'm hoping he'll just get tastier as he gets older.
saw nothing saturday or sunday.
time to blow the dust off the smoke pole!
