Bald Eagle 12/24/11

So a buddy and I decided to get up early this morning and fish Bald Eagle for the day.  When we got to the landing a little after 7am, there were people scattered around Reeds Island on south side, with a few portables mixed elsewhere.  We kinda went off the beaten path and started drilling holes, moving often to try to find more fish.  We ended up catching a couple small gills, a cigar walleye, small perch and about 20 crappies all around 7-9inches.  There was about 7 inches of good clear ice where we were, it seems like that was how most of the lake looked.  There was a 4wheeler out near the island and as many ice sails on the lake as you could count.
Fishing was pretty slow, and it seemed everyone else was moving around too, so I dont think anyone was catching too much, lots of small perch is what I heard from one guy.  The crappies really picked up about 3pm, we were in about 27FOW and they would hang a few feet from the bottom.  We also caught fish in 18FOW and 24FOW, so it seems like they are just scattered.\
All in all though, it was a fun day on the ice - nice to get out in the metro again.
