I'd pay more, as long as the money stays in the DNR and doesn't end up in the general fund.  How much am I willing to pay?  $5-10 more annually seems reasonable.  They should also up the out of state fees at the same time.

If you divided the cost of your license by the amount of times you go fishing I bet you may be surprised. If they don't raise the cost of the nonresident license I would be shocked. Whatever I pay for my husband/wife season nonresident license always seems fair to me. :happy1:

I would hate to see the state start to cut down on wardens. That would just encourage violators. With the economy in the dump and the amount of some of the greedy immigrants and our own low-lives the abuses are growing rapidly.

Totally agree with those statements!  It's bad enough now.

No,No,No!!!  The DNR has determined it will not have enough money.  Guess what?  Maybe just one check point and high pressure car washer would have been enough. ( The asian carp most likely eat spiny water fleas, Eurasian milfoil as well as everything else).  The carp by the way, are a real threat to fishing as we know it.  Maybe the assistant to the assistants assistant job could be cut or not eligible for a pension and benefits.  Maybe the enforcement becomes a priority and last to cut.  :whistling:  Open up the books. (if this ever happened there would be a lot of  :puke: going on.  Until then I vote NO!!!

Who writes the checks for the Conservation officers?  I tried to find out but can't get the google to spit out the answer.  I think it is a federal position.  Does the state write the check or do the Feds?  I don't know.  I do know that 10% of every dime you spend on a rod, a reel, a lure or anything that is involved in fishing  goes to a federal excise tax.  That tax is not listed on your receipt and is split between the manufacturer and retailer-then passed on to you.   In my opinion that in itself is such a huge amount of money we should not be even discussing this.  Where does that money go?  Don't ask.  It goes to improve fisheries.  :banghead:  Tossing more money into a bottomless pit will never be a good move.   :sorry:  I'm done now.

I couldn't agree more with DDS.  Giving the government more money is crazy.  If they have 4 million dollars to run boat cleaning stations they don't need to raise taxes on licenses.  This is one topic I'm going to keep in mind come November and who I vote for.  If they vote yes for this I'm pretty sure going to be voting no for them come november.  What they need to do is get rid of the guy in charge and use his salary to hire someone with some business sense to trim the fat.

dnr is by the state. not the feds. as each state writes and regulates it's own natural resources and why federal stamps are required for water fowl... hence if you want to poach some ducks.. make sure you buy the federal stamp then it's just a state offense if you get busted. either way DNR is by the state.

and whatever they raise the resident fee make sure you triple the out of state fees.

is now a good time to bring up that extra tax some folks voted on themselves? is now a good time to ask WTF were you thinking?

The new recommended license fees don't show any increase in the nonresident rates. Now if I was a MN. resident I figure I'd be upset about that. They may figure it would have a negative impact on tourism.  I don't think it would effect tourism.

They should have increased nonresident rates as well.  If a $5 increase in our nonresident fishing license fee is going to stop someone from visiting MN, how much are they really going to contribute to the MN economy?
