Not bad for an 8 year old. First turkey hunt with his own weapon. All over with in 1 1/2 hours. I tried to tell him it doesn't always work like that!!!!!

You are not the first one to say that!! It was hard to tell who was more excited, me or him!
We couldn't have asked for a better set up. The birds roosted across the river and we slipped into the blind just before 5:30 am, kinda late but being the birds were roosted so far away I was not to worried about getting spotted. We knew they used the field every morning and when he was just about ready to take a little snooze I saw them coming from the left over 500 yards away. Between us and the birds was a small hill in the field so they disappeared for about 45 minutes and didn't make a sound. He was fit to be tied, but I knew the birds were still in front of us because you could see every exit point all around. Then 1 head popped back into view and the other 2 shortly after at about 80 yards. They started feeding off to our left and I started calling. They turned back and worked our direction again for awhile, then turned back to the left again feeding away from us. Jr. was getting worried! So I started calling again and they turned back our direction. At this time I just happened to look out the other side of the blind and we had a hen about 10 yards to the right of the blind! I told him not to move a muscle cuz he already had the gun out the front side of the blind waiting for the other 3 birds to get in range. The hen slipped into the island of trees behind us and the 3 jakes just kept coming from left to right. I told him to pick the one he wanted to take, slip the safe to fire, and when I stopped the birds pull the trigger. So the whole time I am telling him wait, wait, wait, until they got to about 25 yards. Then I said OK they are close enough when I  stop them you can shoot. Well needless to say the gun went BANG! about a second after I said OK!!!!! I never got the chance to stop them!!! He said I GOT HIM!!!!! and set the gun in my hand and was out the backside of the blind in a blur. Fastest I think I have ever seen him move. Wish he would move like that to catch the bus in the morning!!
I have watched many birds hit the ground over the years, but this was a bigger thrill for me than any turkey I had ever taken for myself, or called in for anybody else. Good times!!!!!!
