The walleye-protected slot on Upper Red Lake is being expanded this winter to boost harvest opportunities. The protected slot during the winter used to be 17 to 26 inches -- the same as spring. But this year, the DNR will retain a 20- to 26-inch protected slot for the entire 2012-13 winter walleye season. That means fish in that slot must be released. The daily bag remains four fish, with one longer than 26 inches allowed. :Fish:
