This is a 10% tax up to $10.00 on fishing rods, reels, 11 % on archery bows and various %'s on other hunting and fishing items. This is BS.  Why didn’t we hear about this?  See page 31 of link attached.

Good on Cabela's for breaking out the new tax.

Here it comes! I'm glad Cabela's is showing this.

 :coffee: ....
The 2.3% Medical Excise Tax that began on January 1st is supposed to be "hidden" from the consumer, but it's been brought to the public's attention by hunting and fishing store Cabela's who have refused to hide it and are showing it as a separate line item tax on their receipts.

Anyone still believe Obama didn't raise taxes on the middle class?  :banghead:

This is the reason that we need more fiscal conservatives in DC and less of the social conservatives. Most  of the republicans in Washington are more worried about abortion and gay marriage than things that matter, LIKE THE GOVERNMENT TAXING US TO DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These taxes support the "Sport Fish Restoration Account" and have been around for years.

The 10 % excise tax has been around for years.  The addition 2.3 % is new.   Keep that in mind when you buy fishing lures.  The manufacture has to pay the 10 % of any sale to the Feds.  Then you add in your local sales tax.  Buy a 1 $ lure and close to 20% of the cost is taxes.

I would say that the DNR has far more money than they need. They keep asking for more money but they are getting nothing done with it and when they do find a program that draws public attention then they want additional dedicated funding for that specif project. For example, they have been "fighting" the invasive species infestation for well over a decade and they keep asking for more money, even though they are achieving NOTHING. Proof of that is that stupid new sticker that is going to cost everybody that enjoys spending time on the water $11 a year. Why do they need the additional funding? Not for research or anything else that may actually work, it is to put a guy in a lawn chair at the access of probably 1 out of every, lets say 300 lakes in the state. I'm not sure how an invasive species is going to find its way through that GIANT hole in the safety net. Then your going to have the crowd that is gong to say that it is to make sportsmen aware of invasive species and remind them to check their boats.  As if we were not reminded of that by the DNR every 5 minutes. The only thing the DNR has actually done with the money they have been given to improve the waterways of this state is they have been able to afford the extra ink every year to expand the infested waterways list in the regulations booklet. Oh, I forgot that they also now treat every boater as if they clubbed a baby seal if there is a piece of duckweed on the hull of their boat when they leave the access.

Plus, lets not forget that to the best of my knowledge, ALL invasive species, both flora and fauna have been introduced to the state by commercial boats, not recreational sport fisherman and water skiers.

I'm not saying that invasive species are not an important issue, but we need to start looking at the issue with a little more attention to the fiscal impact on the sportsmen and tax payers of this state. I realize that doing nothing is not the right response to all invasive species, but it may be the answer to some of them. This is a war that we ultimately cannot win, so I say that we start choosing the battles we fight a little more responsibly.
