One of my ex in laws did it out in the badlands and he said it was basically ride out with the rancher in his truck.  Pick one out and shoot it.  Drive tractor up to it and hall back to barn.

There are a few "wild" buffalo hunts, Utah, Montana...but I think you have to be a resident to draw a tag...or wait your entire life.  If you want to hunt wild bison, the best place in Northern Alberta on the edge of the Wood Bison national park.  These a Wood Bison, not plains bison.  Biggest prob is they all have brucellosis so I don't think you can bring meat back into the states.  Here is a link, I have a friend that did this hunt years ago mid winter was quite the experience.  http://andrewlakelodge.com/wildbuf.htm

every buffalo hunt story i've ever heard is the same as dakids said..

i guess for that kind of money I would rather find a beef farmer spend a morning sneaking up on a nice holstein and fill my freezer with grade A beef.  you could still do a mount, just take the bell off and the tag out of the ear.

There's an exotic game farm in the U.P. that has bison.  www.up-outfitters.com

I've never hunted there so I couldn't tell you anything.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

You guys can shoot the holsteens. I'll shoot me a big old LONGHORN.  I would mount the horns on the front of my cavalier with duct tape.
