Bass Professor Passes Away

           Doug Hannon, the “Bass Professor,” Passes Away at 66
 
        

Doug Hannon, a popular bass angler and Fishing Hall of Fame member, passed away at his home last Thursday morning. According to the Star Tribune, Hannon’s death was caused by complications from recent surgery to his neck.

The “Bass Professor” was known to many as an inventor and intrepid angler. Over the course of his fishing career, Hannon had caught over 800 largemouth bass, each weighing at least 10 pounds. In the past few years, he had shocked the industry with his new WaveSpin reel, which promises a smoother fishing experience and less time spent clearing tangles. He was also a tireless advocate for the outdoors and the environment, which he loved so much.

His site, bassprofessor.com, released the following statement:

Doug sadly passed away at his home Thursday morning. We are all shocked and saddened by the news and our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. He was a true pioneer in many ways, and will be loved and missed by millions for his contributions to both the sport of fishing, the outdoors, our environment as well as mankind. He was truly the “Bass Professor” and his legend will live forever.

thats too bad.... actually learned alot from doug growing up when I was in the "learning everything I could about fishing" mode in my younger days..... really like his way of teaching the little things that all added up to me being an average joe fishing nut, liked his tv stuff, wasnt your everyday redneck run of the mill fishing show where they just spend the whole show sitting on a private stocked farm pond catching pet bass for the cameras.....

The angling community lost one of it's most stellar member's when Doug Hannon passed away! He was a true innovator and a fishing icon! After I got my first WaveSpin reel, I liked it so much that I got rid of all my other reel's and now use only WaveSpin's! Rest in peace Doug! DIRTBALL2

i bought his fishing snakes and they work great you don't catch a ton of fish but the ones you do catch are big ones He sure knew his stuff when it came to bass fishing he will be missed that's for sure
