Lakes Oahe/Sharpe fishing report for the Pierre area August 7th to August 10th 2

The bite is a little tougher some days especially if you do not land on the right fish. Oahe continues to put out a lot of the smaller walleye but catching a quality stringer is not easy. I think on Oahe it is because the walleye seem to be divided into two types. Some are feeding on the deeper smelt etc. way down deep (40 to 80 fow) and some seem to be chasing bait in as little as four to six fow. This splits the schools and makes fishing for them much tougher. Sharpe continues to put out nice fish if the current, weather, and cleaner water are good. Some days when the water is very dirty and the current the corps is running is either to much or not enough fishing even here can be spotty. I guided Tom Gilbert and friend with limited success fishing one day on Sharpe and one day on Oahe. We did not get limits on Sharpe but did get their limits of walleye along with some northern pike, white bass smallmouth and catfish on Oahe. The walleye we caught on Sharpe we got pulling flicker shad plugs in around 10 fow and on Oahe we caught fish that way along with bottom bouncer/ crawler/gulp in 4 fow to 65 fow so no help here if you are looking for a depth to start at. Leech's crawler. minnows trolling plugs and even pitching jigs are working when you find the fish. I just got a notice that GF & Parks are going to have a meeting to discuss all of the statistics from their summer surveys on the 29th of this month so I will post that information after the meeting. It is going to be interesting to see a lot of these fact's and can be helpful to all of the fishermen spending time on Oahe.
