This is just theory on my part.  I like a marker when fish are holding tight.  I have and know a gps is great.  Hook a fish and the wind is blowing you can drift a long ways from your spot.  Bright colored commercial ones are nice.  They can be seen from along ways away and will attract fishermen like nobody's business.  Up till now I have been using a small clear water bottle.  It is hard to see.  I sometimes have to use my gps to get back to it.  The advantage is you almost have to run over it to accidentally find it with any breeze at all.  The disadvantage is it is round.  Every bit of line will wind off the marker.  When the fish are holding real tight to a spot or the wind changes the amount of line and direction of the wind must be taken into account when drifting over a very small area.  I think this shaped bottle minus the label should make this a true marker.  I am hoping with the bottle shape the line will only unwind until the weight hits the bottom.  I think if it is windy a small amount of water in the bottle should be enough weight to keep all the line from winding out.  In theory you would only want enough weight to drop fast so you get a true mark

Water bottles are cheap and I'm sure you have spare line and sinkers.  Just make a few and mark them for various debths.  10 - 15 - 20 etc.

I agree with you deadeye.  Technical web site difficulties would not let me post the pic.  I will try again.  I think you can just carry one or two of these.   :doah:    :dancinred:  The pic went through that time.  This bottle being flat should not unwind completely.  If the wind is really blowing a little water in the bottle  should add enough extra weight to keep all the line from coming off.
