Starts Wednesday morning, I went out to the east side of the property here in the west metro. I went to a ladder stand on a ridge. Behind me is a cranberry bog with thick brush. Well that morning a couple does filed by, then I heard something behind me, turned and look a big 8 pointer stood there in the brush by the front of the bog. He wouldn't come any closer and I couldn't get a clear shot and had to turn and watch him walk away. Real frustrated I sat there. Then that afternoon I grabbed a ladder stand and moved it 200 yards down the trail bordering the bog and opposite ridge. I put the stand up and left the area without cutting any shooting lanes. I returned Thursday morning and hung a scent wick with tinks #69 doe in rut buck lure. Broke a few branches and then got in the stand and waited for sun up. 45 minutes after legal shooting time a doe came doe the trail. Then walked away. Then after watching squirrels for another hour. I look at my phone. 8:15am. It was time to get down and go in to do chores, as I slid my phone in my pocket I heard leaves crunching. I thought it was squirrels but looked anyways. I could see see deer legs coming down the trail then the rest of the body appeared along with a big rack. I clicked the safety off the slug gun. He continued down the trail and stopped at the scent wick behind some brush. He smelled around then smelled where I had walked in and got nervous and turned back up the trail. I had to pick a small opening to shoot through, as he stepped into the narrow lane my cross hairs found his shoulder and I squeezed off a round. He hunched up and took off running, my mind is racing when I see a branch with a fresh chunk off of it. My slug hit a branch! My mind starts to go crazy, I get down and walk to where he stood and there's hair everywhere but no blood. I marked the spot and walked out. I got to the house and did chores for a hour. Recruited tracking help and returned to the spot. Started down the trail and there was lots of blood! 80 yards down the trail there he laid! Dead. Counted 17 points. So it wasn't the 8 but much better. On a side note I'm wearing my fawkinae sweater!

Great deer!

Cody do you have any trail cam pictures of him?
Did you pull the 2 front teeth and send them in to get him aged?
What did he weight?
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.
