Not a lot of chat on here for the waterfowlers ... Does anyone besides me and snow even do this sort of thing anymore?? Big Red and I have had a half decent season so far going up north with Finnpower. Shot a bunch of mallards this past weekend along with bills rings and buffles. Anyone else having any luck/reports/stories to tell??  :coffee: I'm heading up one more time this season to the northern part of the state before I start deer hunting.  :fudd: :deer:
Going South......in a manner of speaking!

I've only been out a few times. Nothing special. Wood ducks early. Besides that it's been scattered

I had a couple of good hunts early in the season but lately its been pretty slow. Hunted once last weekend and didnt fire a shot. Within the last few days the mallards have been piling up in the pond I live on NW of the cities (unfortunately you cant hunt it) and Ive been seeing a lot more geese in the cut fields. Ill be in Ripley this weekend and then Rifle hunting after so my season may be done unless I tag out on deer.

Have yet to buy my license this year - But word has it where we hunt in Mankato/Cleveland area, it's been pretty dry. Geese are just now starting to move in with lots of high flying mallards the last couple days. Sloughs are pretty low, and a lot of the states smaller WMA ponds are dried up. Local farmer just plowed over out ponds in his field after being dry for last two years. So no hope of them ever filling back up.

Seeing a ton of geese and ducks in the Red Wing/Welch area in the early morning drives to work out at the casino. Might be a good mid week hunt with this cold snap this morning, and tomorrow, might make for a great day out on Wed/Thurs morning.

Hearing Snows coming over head in Goodhue the last couple nights, but by morning they are nowhere to be seen.

Hope the season picks up and I can get my license and get out a few times before season closes.

Finally some chatter here...In my area the action has been steady,no big #'s but we manage to scatch out a few every day we get out,not many geese around, infact we took a road trip to Lac Qui Parle last saturday to check things out, pretty sure we seen more deer hunters than geese even tho the refuge count was 20k,years back when they had a quota the hunt was over by now and the refuge would have over 100k geese with more coming in daily...We did see a few good bunches of mallards workin the picked cornfields.

Pretty sure this cold snap will get things rollin for us,I'm heading to sodak this weekend for a few days to use up the hard to get non-rez waterfowl license, hopefully the timing is good.

For my season, I only got out once and was able to shoot this hooded merganser. Saw quite a few ducks that day but a few factors lead to a poor day of shooting. One big factor was some guy was nice enough to set up about 200 yards from us and proceed to use the worlds worst calling I have ever heard.

Well the 2013 waterfowl season will go down in the history books as "below average" the hardcore guyz hung in there and ended the season with all green, hard to get fired up on brown ducks but these greenheads will put a guy on point.Hevi Metal from hevi shot made the day.

Nice Job Snow!
