If a stand is 12 ft up and a practice target is 20 yards from base of tree what would the angle distance from shooter to target.

I'm still using my 20 yard pin on that shot. I really don't think at 20 yards you are ging to get much play. I think when shooting at long distances which I don't do you'd have to compensate a bit more for angle.

Also, I would take in consideration the angle when shooting at a live animal so you hit the vitals.

Long story= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem

  Short story= axa +bxb=cxc

Your story =12ft.x12ft.+20yds x 20yds=distance

  we convert the yards to feet.  1 yard =3ft    20/3=6.66   :oops1:  (20x3=60ft)

   12X12 =(144) +60x60 (3600) = the square root of 3744(61.188) /3= 20.396yrds

HaHa... don't think that much. It'll drive u nuts in your stand. Just use your 20 yard pin  :happy1: you'll have a dead deer.

If you're really concerned shoot a target from your tree stand.  :green archer:

at 12 ft you wont see much difference however id use my first pin on that shot. (depending on bow) of you were more like 20 ft up and used your 20 yrd pin youd likely hit very high.

the shot angle is basically how much your arrow is fighting gravity. when shooting downhill your arrow will fly farther=higher than shooting flat. try it out and shoot from your stand, most bows will shoot to 20 with a 10yrd pin from an elevated stand.

dont take my word for it though. the only way you know how you and your bow will shoot is to practice the same way you hunt.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

 That angle is called the hypotheses of the triangle. SO
 12ft up X itself 12 =144 then the distance of 20 yds turn that to ft 60ft X 60ft =3600 add the 2 together 3600+144=3744.Take that 3744 ft and find the square root of it.That is what number times itself will equal 3744. So 61.188 ft times 61.188 ft equals 3743.97.The distance your looking for is 61.188ft changed into yards will be 20.396 yards
