I've been watching this guy all year. Also have the thread "getting antsy" with him in it.  Happy to get one of my target deer but sad my season is already over.

Way to go there. Nice deer.  I hear you on the sad part about being done for the year.  I believe we will hear a lot of that this year.

Well as I said this was a deer I've been watching since July.  He happens to be the same deer Dakids said might be older than my first assumption. He surprise me when he came in because he was in a gallop when he went through one shootin lane and I thought he was going to just keep running but he abruptly stopped on the edge of my 2nd lane.  In return I had to shoot over a branch that was under my right arm.  I'm not going to lie, I rushed my shot, torqued last minute and sent the harpoon into his gut. I'm far from happy with my shot but atleast we knew to pull out after recovering the arrow and realizing the shot.  Gave him 6 or so hours to bed down and expire. After a 250 yard blood and fecal matter trail we foun him with bedding under the pines, stone dead. Now that my seasons over I will probably get to the grouse woods as well as go after a fall turkey.

Very smart move on waiting 6 hours.  Must have been torture waiting.  What broadhead did you use.

Oh yes it was hell,  when we first went back in after the wait I was still worrying it was too soon.  But when we found him rigamortis had already set in.  This year I was giving Rage 2" chisel tips a try. Got it all butchered today and just going to rinse off a piece of back strap to see how the deer tastes.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

congrats! smart move to wait. its torture but its better then bumping him to early and have him die on the neighbors or somewhere else and not find him. I am shooting the rage chisel tips also. rage work great! even when shots are less then marginal
