A man is dead after falling through the ice on Shadehill Lake, which is located in northern Perkins County.

Police say Friday two men and two children were riding a 4-wheel ATV on the ice heading toward shore when they broke through and went into the water.

The father to the two children and a child, were able to crawl out of the water and onto the ice. Police say the other child was rescued by two fishermen who witnessed the accident.

Police say the second man, 32-year-old Sam Lipp of Newcastle Wyoming disappeared into the lake.
Search efforts to find Lipp's body was postponed until the following morning because of safety conditions for the rescuers.

Late in the morning of Saturday, January 24, 2015, the Lemmon Volunteer Fire Department, along with a dive rescue team from the Dickinson, North Dakota Rural Fire Department was able to recover Mr. Lipp's body from the Shadehill Lake. A dive rescue team from the Pierre, South Dakota Fire Department also travelled to Shadehill Lake to be available if needed. The South Dakota Game, Fish, & Parks, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Lemmon Ambulance Service, and Perkins County Sheriff's Office assisted in the accident response.
