DNR wins case over restrictions on Lake Mille Lacs fishing

 Feb 17, 2015 at 7:53 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS — A group suing the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources over tighter fishing restrictions on Lake Mille Lacs northwest of the Twin Cities lost their battle in court Tuesday.

A judge ruled that the DNR’s decision to impose an emergency night fishing ban, and tighter walleye limits, is valid, according to WCCO-TV.

The group “Save Mille Lacs” filed the lawsuit claiming the DNR ignored a constitutional amendment, and did not seek public input.

Some area businesses say the rules have devastated the area, forcing anglers to fish elsewhere, the television station reported. They claim the DNR has mismanaged the lake for years. The group now says they plan to take the issue to state lawmakers.
