Fishing Report for Lakes Oahe/Sharpe Pierre area for August 18th thru the 23rd 2

The wind has been blowing real hard making the fishing on these days the same. We have had a couple of days we actually had gusts as high as 60 mph. I guided repeat customer Brandon Vorthman and his daughter for one day at West Bend catching them limits of nice eating size walleye. We fished around 20 feet deep with bouncer /crawler rigs and had a great time. I then helped guide the CVA group for the Outpost Lodge for 4 days with Central Valley Ag bringing two groups of guys and gals (75 a group) on their annual outing. The guides went different places and all in all the trip was good however many boats including myself had a tough time coming in with limits especially in the big wind days. For some reason the bite has gotten much harder on Oahe with fish any were from 10 fow to 50 + fow making finding them very difficult. West Bend continues to put out fish when the weather permits but catch's are way down there too on those days the wind howls. It looks like the upcoming week is going to have some normal weather again so maybe my next report will be more favorable. Cat fishing is going and some big Salmon are still coming in but the salmon bite is not a numbers game. It is mostly fishermen looking for another state record fish. Smallmouth fishing is very good at the Bend and on Oahe. Bait of choice for me are still crawlers/gulp but taking minnows/leech's or even pulling plugs can produce nice fish.
