The 51st annual Wisconsin Governor's Fishing Opener will be held Friday through Sunday on the Minong Flowage near Trego in Washburn County.

Gov. Scott Walker and other state officials will partner with local fishing guides to fish for walleye and northern pike on Saturday.

Other events include a fishing and outdoor expo open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Heartwood Conference Center in Trego.

A fishing opener banquet will be held at the conference center on Friday night, and an awards lunch will be held on Sunday.

The event is sponsored by Wisconsin Indian Head Country, a nonprofit tourism promotion group serving Northwestern Wisconsin.
