I've read some that say yes and some that day no.   I'm going to wait a week and see what happens.

I had the master gardener certificate for years 2002 till 2013 when I couldn't meet the volunteer requirements.
Thats something that never came up.This is the first year I heard of em freezing out.some of ours froze not all just a few.The time line for planting them is early, I think it was something like goodfriday?? Cant really remember.
MY GUESS and only a guess? is the foliage was destroyed and they'll come back.I'll make a call this evening to a long time mastergardener,a woman who writes articals in the local paper and ask.
I do know the cool weather planting gives tubers a while to develop before heat slows growth the reason to plant early

Heres what I was told. If there is a live leaf,Steak the vine for support and it should recover. If no live leaves the vine is kaput! The seed sends the first growth up once it has sunshine& air the plant is programed to send all other shoots down for reproduction. If that one shoot that went up dies freezes or cut off the plant wont recover, it was programed and will not send anymore growth up for photosynthesis.

The reason for planting early is to avoid heat when wilt is most prevalent, Late planting is risky because of wilt.
