Where's Your Bimini DUDE!

In other articles that I have covered, I speak of an early rise and beating the days heat.  Now while that's all good in thought, sometimes an early rise turns into 9am breakfast and then a scramble to the lake.  This doesn't take you out of a good days worth of fishing, it will just require a full day and a good look at some things to ensure you can get the best of the day before it gets the best of you. 

Now the key here is keeping yourself cool, shade is always the place to start and that's where my titles derived from.  However, not all boats have bimini tops, so clothes are crucial and having clothes that can aid in keeping your body dry and cool will give longevity to your day.  Okay, so enough about the boat and clothes, lets get on what is going to work. 

You know that tackle box with all the goofy stuff in there, yes we all have a box of "junk" but it is really not junk.  Let's call it the impulse box, it was the gear on sale or it was something you just had to test.  Now most people won't admit to this box, but if you have one, work with me here.  So using this particular box we can make these fish bite.  What kind of fish are we talking?  Well just about any species, and the thing of it is, we can get the big ones!!

Location!? Well on your body of water that you prefer, here is what I would say, pick a day with a breeze to moderate wind.  Even if it slightly laid up we will still be fine, glass conditions will require movement and I will cover that.  So, where we need to target walleye for example is off ledges, big walleye will run thermoclines late like this, and they are most likely moving along with cisco's and shiner shad. 

Don't get me wrong you can pig a few out of the weeds as well, but I particularly like taking my most stupid looking crank bait that runs deep.  What I will do is put three 1/8 ounce split shots 8 inches apart in front of the crank.  When I'm casting across deeper water I want to make sure this drives fast.  Also, a good casting micro braid is preferable, I use small snaps and no leader. 

Now for some of the others jigs and such, maybe you have some plastics that aren't your favorites! Lets use them.  Okay so if you fish weed driven waters, the use a jig with a bigger shank hook.  Lace it up weed-less with something minnow looking and start ripping that thing aggressively.  Reaction strikes are everything, a lot of guys are catching fish on jigging raps these days and reaction is everything, so rip those baits hard and stick some fish.  Stay warm and DON'T FORGET YOUR BIMINI DUDE!
