A big curtain for Big Turtle.... (Say What?)

 :reporter; .....
A drift curtain was installed at the public access on Big Turtle Lake, north of Bemidji, on Thursday by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to contain the starry stonewort, a prohibited aquatic invasive species. Starry Stonewort is an invasive form of macroalgae that can produce dense mats, which can interfere with the use of the lake. It also has the ability to choke out native plants and possibly alter the habitat for young fish. The discovery in Big Turtle Lake is the second known infestation of the species in Minnesota. The drift curtain is one of the steps in containing and removing starry stonewort from the lake.
