Back in the day we used these all the time while camping....any thing from ham & cheese to apple filled hot pies. We used wonder bread, buttered and trimmed with whatever filling we had.

Here is a different twist with a tortilla......

Use hashbrowns instead of bread.....mmmm

There was a booth doing that at the farmer's market Sunday.

Whatddya mean Remember??? Heck, we have them now!  Fleet Farm, among other places sell them.  Pie Irons, they're called.  We keep them up at the family cabin and it's a highlight of our summer meals, especially for the kids.  It's quickest to use bread, but we go gourmet and buy frozen pie crust dough.  Cut it in squares, brush it with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and fill it with canned Apple Pie filling,  It's a little bit of prep and can get messy, but it's SOOOO good cooked over the fire pit.

I've seen them at FF too Thunderlund and really like your idea. Wonder how it would work with stuff like cherry and smurfberry filling?

I'm embarrassed to say I have never used them but I seen them plenty of time.  Just looked too small for me LOL.  As a family we always made big meals [my parents and us as kids], and then I got to be the cook while camping and it was the same thing.  After these comments this may be a great tool to get the grandkids to make their own treats, even here at home over the outside fire.  good luck.

Possibilities are only limited to your imagination.  Try a white bread or pie crust and fill the inside with Hershey bars, marshmallows and Gram cracker crumbs for a smore-pocket!
