It's always amazed me how many of the smaller creeks around my area just get over looked. When opener rolls around everyone goes to the lakes. I used to go around and make a couple casts from each bridge. Each one was good for a northern and sometimes 2. About every 4th or 5th one I was surprised by a nice eye.

Sounds like I am talking myself into some plans for opener.

There is one thing that stands out in my mind that to this day still puzzles me. It happened nearly 15 yrs ago. I was walking down the alley way by dads place when I noticed this little kid (bout10-12) cleaning some fish. They looked different so went to talk to him, turns out they were some sort of trout. Now I've never heard of trout around my area.

That got my curiosity and started asking ?'s. He wouldn't tell me where he got them only telling me that he could see the Brooten water tower from where he caught them. He told me he just got back and looking at his bike I could see he had his pole and a small tackle box rigged up on the handle bars.

Now do supose that little kid had found something that has eluded me and all the other fishermen in the area? Did he catch them someplace else and was pulling my leg? I'll never know. I had planned on inviting the kid fishing once to see if I could find out more but about a yr later he moved away.

I guess there are 2 different stories here but the morels are small creeks can be full of suprises and it will never hurt to take a kid fishing.

A guy I know posted this on the WI fly fishing site:

Last summer on a sand county stream, I saw a sturgeon. To see a 5 foot long fish swimming toward you in a trout stream is a sight to be hold. Almost had to go back and change my pants.
;D ;D ;D
Yep, with streams and rivers, ya never know what's swimmin' in them thar waters!
