It feels like a heat wave has hit the northwoods. It was zero this morning. That sure beats -34 a couple of mornings ago.
The walleye action at JR's Corner Access improved last night. The action is at the 20-25 walleye per day level. The walleyes are biting almost everywhere out there.

The report from Sunny Beach was very poor. 1 crappie and 3 walleye for a party of 8.

The crappie action off of JR's Corner access is fair. The Family Cabin caught 12 crappies. I think the cold weather is still a limiting factor. Mobility is limited due to the wind chills. The weather is improving this week

The ice is very thick. 42-48 inches, and Crappie Ice is especially thick. I'm almost to the point of putting the extension on the extension trying to get through the rough ice. The flat smooth ice is about 36 inches thick, and growing.

To avoid getting the auger stuck in the rough ice, make sure you clear the hole every time you loose site of the auger. Increase the frequency of clearing the ice when you get closer to breaking through.

What to do when you get the auger stuck in the ice. Gps the coordinates, and send them to me, so I can take the power head.

Just kidding. If you follow the advice above you should be fine. If not, clear as much snow on top of the auger as possible, Try to lift the auger out of the hole. When you continue to clear snow and get the auger about 18 inches above the ice, start the auger and punch through and pull it out.
