        Monster muskie on Mille Lacs Lake!

MILLE LACS LAKE, Minn.—A 23-year-old Twin Cities man had the catch of his life Sunday, June 3, on Mille Lacs Lake in central Minnesota.


Connor Lingwall, of Blaine, Minn., caught and released a 55-inch, 43-pound muskie while fishing Sunday afternoon, his father said in an interview with KSTP-TV.

"It took him about 20 to 30 minutes to bring (the muskie) in," said Richard Lingwall, Connor's father. "He said his arms were burning and sore after trying to bring it in."

Richard added that his son would like to have a replica of the muskie made when he can afford to do so. $$$$$$$$

 
"He was very excited and happy," Richard told KSTP-TV. "It was the biggest catch of his life."

Minnesota's official catch and release state record for muskellunge is 56 7/8 inches caught by Andrew Slette, of Hawley, Minn., on Pelican Lake in Otter Tail County on June 25, 2016.

The largest muskie ever caught, according to the Modern Day Muskellunge World Record Program, was a 58-inch, 58-pound muskie caught in 2012 by Joe Seeberger of Lake Bellaire in Michigan.

With the increaed popularity of catch and relase fishing and higher minimum lengths, many anglers are reluctant to harvest record-weight fish.

To address this concern, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recently created a program for catch-and-release length for four species: muskellunge, lake sturgeon, flathead catfish and northern pike.

If a fisherman feels they've caught a fish large enough to be considered a potential state record, they are asked to submit an application that can be found on the Minnesota DNR's website.
