No bread for waterfowl

We fed the birds bread as kids and then learned that it was a bad deal.

I do kinda get a kick out of this and snow, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I get that highly processed wheat flour probably isn't the best thing to be feeding them on a large scale regular basis. However, what do you suppose those Canadian mallards, pintails, gadwalls, geese, etc., are eating on their migration down thru the Dakota's? A lot of throw over wheat and barley that came out the back of the combine. They seem to do just fine on it. Both feed equivalently to corn when adjusted properly in animal rations. I've done it with sheep & chickens, yet neither grain is on their approved list. Food for thought...

Snow, that pea crop was not yet a "thing" around Rolla, Rock Lake & Cando (home of Dave Osborne) when I lived up there 40 years ago. Was already some of the most bizarre cropping mix that I'd ever seen at that time tho. Loved the area. On my bucket list to travel back there to see what it looks like now.

Many spring snow goose hunts near Rolla,usually stayed in New Rockford tho,smaller town ,always wanted to hit the same area in the fall but never did...met alot of great folks in that area.

Used to be a little kiosk at Silver Lake where ya could get old bread and shelled corn to feed the wildlife. Families would go down to the lake to feed the geese on Sundays; little kids got a big kick out of it. Been a thing to do here since I was born. Now CAWchester has banned feeding the geese/ducks at Silver lake. Even put up signs all around the lake. They even went to their nests and oiled the goose eggs this Spring so no more will hatch. What next?!  :angry2:

Really Reb? I thought since the silver lake power plant shut down the goose population was nil these days,not true eh?Haven't hunted down there in many years,had a great setup on the north edge of the city boundry just north of the gravel pit along the river,next to HQ when they were operating.

That's where I hunted 'em for many years...the north line. The winged ones would hide out in the gravel pits. Still a couple hundred left there at the lake.
We wanted 'em here for years; they're even on our city flag, now we want 'em gone.  :scratch:
