In the fall of the year when there isn't much water around deer will travel for miles in search of a watering hole. That means those deer are leaving your hunting grounds and risk the chance of being harvested by someone else. To help prevent these deer from wandering and without the expense of digging a pond. Cut a 55 gallon barrel in half the long way and bury it flush with the ground. The rain water will collect in the barrel and the deer have a constant source of water all year. Once the deer know the barrel is there they will beat a trail to it. If you want to bring deer to a certain area, try this. Alot of times this tip will work better than a food plot by your stand, because all the deer need water and will use it more frequently.

This is the 3rd time that I have heard this. Every time someone tells me this I hear the same thing too!

I have blown it off everytime......Not this time!

Seriously the other two that told me this are die hard bowhunters. They both hunt in Wisconsin and they swear by these watering holes.

I had heard this before too from a buddy but didn't put much thought into it as he has been known to stretch things from time to time. I'm gonna try it out in my folks woods this year and see what happens. We have a small stream that winds through most of their property so we may not see drastic results but what the heck, i'll try it and see what happens. Thanks for that suggestion luvn-luvnlife

One thing I just thought of regarding this barrel tip. Make sure that you wash/rinse the barrel out thoroughly if there were any chemical contents or something which could hurt the deer or other animals if ingested. I would recommend cutting it open, and then wash and rinse several times, then allow it to stand and air out for some time before using it in this application. Most of the 55 gallon barrels that I obtain are from local factories after they have emptied the contents and assume that most others have the same connections in their backyards. Have a great day. 8)
