i just noticed on my black lab that has lost some hair on the front of his neck under his collar. push back some of the hair that overlaps it and its bare. i dont know what this is, i think its his collar just rubbing it off, my buddy thinks he might have allergys just wondering some people input before i take him into the vet, just to make sure it aint nothing serious.

IF it is just in that one spot and there is not redness or anything I would guess that the collar is rubbing it off.  Little black dog used to have that as well.  Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Unless we're training or hunting (or out for the evening walk), my pooches generally don't have a collar on.  Around the house, in the kennel, or screwing around in the yard, I leave the collar off.

Had an acquaintance whose lab hung himself - apparently the dog jumped up on the chain link of the kennel, got the collar stuck, and that's all she wrote....  I had read about that, but hearing this fellow tell the story made it really stick in my mind.  His kids found the dog.

now i take the collar off...isnt the e collar a traing collar? no this is just his regular collar. i only put the shocker on him when out in the field. i went and talked to my boss today about it sense i got the dog from him and he owns my dogs sister, (same litter) and i told him what is going on and i have to take him into the vet because his dog had the same thing and they gave him medicine for it. he thinks it may of been in the whole litter.

Yes the ecollar is a training aide and should not be worn more than 8 hours but i see so many who keep theirs on the dog all the time..

I used mine a few times, busted his butt asap, he doesn't do the things anymore, so he hasn't worn it in over a month.. When or if his bad habits come back, on it will go again.. but he knows the ecollar, and the remote and he knows it gives him a bad zap too..

i only put the collar on him when i take him hunting otherwise if he see's me carrying it around the house he goes nuts and thinks he is going hunting. same thing when cleaning the shotgun, he thinks he is going hunting and gets excited. :offtopic:
