Anyone have any turkey hunting success stories to share?
My husband and I and two of our kids went out early May, and not one of us got to fire a single shot; it was pretty frustrating.  We heard several toms gobbling at different times, and we could call the toms in to a certain point, then they'd just hang up at about 80-100 yds. away.  And we noticed the number of turkeys seems to be down this year too.  Anyone else have this problem?

Old "Son of Slab" has a good Turkey story. I hunt in Cannon Falls Zone 339. First Day of Turkey opener. Wed. I leave work at 10am and arrive at my blind around 11am with my bow, decoys, slate call and some lunch. Set up the two Hens and Jake decoys and get in my blind only to see a dozen hens about 80 yds out. Here comes 4 Toms all strutted up and looking for action so I glass them for a moment and make a few calls. They start heading my way so I reach for my arrows but guess what I arrived at my blind with my bow, decoys, calls and lunch, No Arrows ::hittingself::
So I sneak out the back way and walk about a mile back to my truck and retrieve said arrows. On my way back to my blind I can see the whole crew 10 yards from my blind with all 4 Toms still strutting away. I'm not the best at stalking and don't really care for it much anyway I like the "calling them in" type of hunting so instead of sneaking up on them I just walked right back to my blind and when I got about 50yds away they all headed for the woods. Now I'm sitting there thinking that I probably won't see another Turkey for the day so I crack a cold beer(My Lunch) and make a few yelps on the slate.
Before I can set down my Lienie's Northwoods Lager I hear this hissing coming from the same area I just entered my blind. So I turn around and see this huge Lone Tom nose to nose with my Jake decoy trying to push him off the two hens. I set my lunch down knock up an arrow and the 26lber with 9.5 inch beard and 1.5" spurs is now on my wall and in my belly. This was my first bow kill of a Turkey after missing 3 times the last 2 years. ::cheers::  In my opinion Wild Turkey tastes the same if not better than Store bought :chef:.  Just like fish you can buy them cheaper at the store but the thrill of the chase and that final thrill of victory is priceless. Took the pictures with my 35MM otherwise I'd post a picture. This Fall if I get selected I'm bringing a Digital Camera with Video capability.  Life is Good! 8)   "Son of Slab" IBOT #305
